The two Telephone party Diyawanna members who joined the government to accept top team office defying the stand taken by the party not to be part of the government, have received the letter suspending their party membership and removing them from all posts held in the party.
The initial letter drafted informing the defected duo of the suspension of their membership was a highly critical harsh one, they say.
However, the party chief, after reading the draft had told the writer, “ It is like a bomb! Tone it down! It should not be too harsh!”
So, the letter had been revised five times in the bid to tone down its contents and the party chief had signed the final draft!
Later, it had been brought to their notice of a legal snag with regard to the letter: the party’s general secretary should have signed the letter, not the party chief for it to be legally valid.
The defected two members are expected to make a response shortly to the letter suspending their party membership, they say.
