Muddy mess at Maligawatte Flats

During a recent visit to a close friend of mine residing in Block B47, adjacent to Block E1 of the Maligawatte Flats, Jayantha Weerasekera Mawatha, I observed a concerning situation behind the Maligawatte Public Market (near the Ruby Theatre). A large quantity of garbage has remained uncollected for an extended period. This is not only an eyesore,  but also a potential breeding ground for mosquitoes and other health hazards.

Additionally, a mini-makeshift shop in a dilapidated condition stands in the same place and requires immediate attention. Furthermore, the mud removed during recent drain-cleaning operations has been left piled on the roadway instead of being properly disposed of. With even a moderate rainfall, this mud is likely to wash back into the drain, causing it to clog again.

I kindly request the Director of Engineering (Solid Waste Management), Eng. Ms. Shahina Mysan, to deploy the relevant crew to dismantle the makeshift shop, clear the accumulated garbage and remove the piled-up mud without delay.
