A call to prioritise people’s health

Another shortage of medicines has been reported in the news, much to the dismay of patients. People receiving treatment from main hospitals such as the National Hospital will be inconvenienced due to this crisis if it is not addressed immediately. The Minister has instructed health authorities to intervene and resolve this impending crisis.

Doctors have highlighted ongoing issues including shortages of essential medicines, delays in equipment availability, staffing constraints and administrative bottlenecks, which they said were impacting the efficiency of patient treatment services at the country’s premier referral hospital.

The incumbent government should take measures to deliver its promises mentioned in the election manifesto. Health is a fundamental sector that needs to be addressed. Government hospital services shouldn’t be crippled as a result of these shortages which would greatly inconvenience the common man who receives treatments.

People in rural areas spend much of their income on food and medicine and the government should provide essential medicines at concessionary rates. People of this country have dealt with enough and more crises, and this government was their only hope. Therefore, without launching strike action and other unnecessary barriers, doctors and other professionals should prioritise people’s health over political gains.
