Twelve districts have been identified as high-risk areas for the spread of Leptospirosis in the country, Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.

Responding to a question by SJB MP Rohana Bandara, he told Parliament that Galle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matara, Hambantota, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa Badulla, Gampaha and Monaragala have been identified as high-risk areas for the spread of Leptospirosis.

The Minister stated that Doxycycline, required to control the disease, is amply available in the country and requested those who work in risk areas, such as paddy fields, to take the medicine on time.
