Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa indicated that a “significant plan” is in place aimed at regaining political power in the New Year, stating that a political shift is imminent and that the party is fully prepared for it.
He made these remarks while addressing the reopening of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) political activities yesterday (20) at the party headquarters at Nelum Mawatha, following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.
The event was held under the patronage of Mahinda Rajapaksa and SLPP National Organiser MP Namal Rajapaksa, with the participation of party activists, along with former and current parliamentarians.
Commenting further, Rajapaksa also said that this year’s May Day coincides with a Poya day, adding that the party will refrain from holding traditional rallies and will instead engage in religious observances.
He also said that while the recent New Year had been personally positive for him, he felt the public had not been able to celebrate the festival in a satisfactory manner due to the higher cost of living.
