Over 360 receive free spectacles at eye care camp in Kuchchaveli

James Global Minerals, in collaboration with the Eye Donation Society, organised a free eye examination and glasses distribution programme at the Multi-Community Cultural Hall, Kuchchaveli Divisional Secretariat recently.

The initiative, aimed at providing vital healthcare support to underserved communities, attracted several hundred residents from the Kuchchaveli Grama Sevaka divisions. While 250 people had registered for the programme, the overwhelming turnout prompted the organisers to extend support to many more. Over 360 individuals received free prescription glasses, while 40 underwent detailed eye examinations and were registered for cataract and corrective surgeries. An additional 50 pairs of glasses were donated to the Divisional Secretariat for distribution to families in need.

Speaking at the event, Col. Nalin Herath (Retd), General Manager of James Global Minerals, highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to the community:

“Sustainable growth is not only about economic development, but also about ensuring the well-being of the people who live in the regions where we operate. Today’s initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to empower and uplift marginalised communities.”

The event was graced by S. Sudhakaran, Deputy Government Agent (Chief Guest), and Guests of Honour including M.R. Ziaul Haque, Divisional Secretary of Kuchchaveli; H.D.A.M. Gunathilaka, Officer-in-Charge of Kuchchaveli Police Station; J. Nilam, Coordinator of the Asia Pacific Alliance; and senior company representatives Attorney T.M.
