Moragahakanda running dry

Moragahakanda reservoir, the final irrigation scheme under the Mahaweli project has been running dry and several villages that had gone under water has emerged.   

Old buildings including houses, schools and temples in about seven Grama Niladhari areas are clearly visible now. Among them are the historic Hathekanua, Kongahawela, Thambarawa and Moragolla colonies.   

Thousands of people flocked to revive their nostalgic memories in the area before it went under the project.
