Man pinned under stack of asbestos succumbs to injuries



  • Investigations revealed that when the container truck moved forward, a stack of asbestos sheets had fallen on him

An employee of a asbestos sheets manufactory at Anawilundawa in Arachchikattuwa was pinned under a stack of asbestos and succumbed to his injuries on admission to Anawilundawa Divisional Hospital yesterday afternoon.   

He was loading a consignment of asbestos sheets into a container when he met with the accident. The factory manufacturing roofing sheets and ceiling sheets is run by an Indian company. The victim Kandeepan Shashikaran 

(18) was from the Udappuwa area.   

Investigations revealed that when the container truck moved forward, a heap of asbestos sheets had fallen on him. The driver of the container truck was arrested on suspicion of causing a death by failing to avoid an accident. The postmortem of the deceased was to be held at the Chilaw General Hospital today.   

Actg. OIC Arachchikattuwa Police K. A. A. D. S. Ranjan is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP Prabhath Dayananda and SSP Rohan Perera.
