Major General Manada Yahampath of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry was appointed as the 68th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army yesterday.
His elevation follows a brief but significant tenure as the 47th Deputy Chief of Staff, a role he assumed in June 2025. Prior to this, he served as the 32nd Commander of Security Forces – Jaffna from December 2024, and briefly as the 21st Commander of Security Forces – Central.
Major General Yahampath’s leadership experience also includes serving as General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 52 Infantry Division and as Commandant of the Army War College (AWC) in Buttala, where he oversaw the tactical and strategic training of mid-level officers.
An alumnus of Isipathana College, Colombo, he has undergone extensive military training both locally and abroad, earning the prestigious National Defence University (“ndu”) and Passed Staff College (“psc”) qualifications.
