A serious allegation and a disclosure was made against Minister of Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala in Parliament yesterday where MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake alleged that Mr. Wijepala is a person who had been expelled from the police.
“Minister Wijepala was an SI attached to the police department in the 1980s but has been expelled from the police after a disclosure made by a report put out by the intelligence unit,” MP Dassanayake said.
“I will not reveal your real name as it is already disclosed in the social media. One wonders as to who was behind the attacks on Ambanpola, Tammutegama and Galgamuwa police stations during the 1989 insurrection,” he added.
“I know you are trying to kill us. This is why our security is removed. If you kill us I will haunt you and seek revenge,” the MP said directing his remark at Minister Wijepala
MP Mujibur Rahman who came up with more allegations said the police officer Kithsiri Jayalath who engineered the false allegations and arrest of Dr. Shafi has been appointed a DIG under this government.
Minister Wijepala who responded said he was never expelled from the police but resigned because of personal reasons.
He said neither he nor the government have any intention to kill opposition MPs. “We don’t have any intention of killing opposition MPs. We will provide adequate protection to MP Dassanayake and other MPs.
