Intoxicant capsules seized

A consignment of 317,000 capsules of an illegal intoxicant was seized during a raid on Mohottuwarama Island on Thursday night by Kalpitiya Police.

Police said a group of racketeers would have smuggled it from India by sea. However, the suspects had fled from the scene during the raid and evaded arrest.

A senior police official said capsules identified by trade name as pregabalin were weighing 150 milligrams each. Investigations revealed that the market value of the stock of capsules was more than Rs. 55 million.

A police team under OIC Kalpitiya Police CI Luxman Ranwala Arachchi had carried out the raid.
