Increase in accidents and 20 deaths during last nine days :Police

A total of 20 deaths have been reported due to a significant increase in road accidents over the past nine days, from April 10 to 19, compared to the same period last year, said Deputy Police Chief W. P. J. Senadheera, in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety.The DIG revealed that fatal accidents had increased by 18 during this period.  

“Considering the period from the 10th to the 19th of this month, there is an increase of 18 road accidents compared to last year. The number of deaths from accidents has risen to 20,” he said.  

He further noted that serious accidents had increased by 94, minor accidents by 49, and non-injury (property damage) accidents by 48, relative to the previous year.
