Inclement weather conditions claim four lives

Inclement weather brought on by the depression located in the Southeast Arabian Sea has claimed four lives to date, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said yesterday.   

Two deaths have been reported from Kegalle, one each from Anuradhapura and Kandy Districts.   

Some 12, 142 persons belonging to 3036 families from 12 districts have been affected as per the data put out from DMC last evening. Affected districts are Kurunegala, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Moneragala, Galle, Hambantota, Kalutara, Colombo, Kegalle Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, and Vavuniya. In addition 191 houses have been damaged.   

Water level of Kalu Ganga is on the rise while other major rivers were reported to be normal.   

Some areas including Handala received a rainfall of 100mm, Kalutara received a rainfall of 60mm, Galle 45mm.
