Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that no space will be given for unauthorized constructions in the Colombo District under any circumstances.

She emphasised that approvals will not be granted for illegal structures, nor will residential constructions be allowed under the pretext of development if they place people at risk.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while speaking to the media following the Colombo District Disaster Management Committee meeting held at the Colombo District Secretariat.

She noted that the Colombo District has become highly vulnerable to flooding primarily due to unplanned construction carried out without any proper understanding of regulations or planning requirements.

The Prime Minister further stated that decisions taken based on narrow political agendas have led to the district and its people being placed in such a vulnerable situation.
