Whilst raising concerns on the hacking of US $ 2.5 million, which was sent as an instalment payment for a loan which the government of Sri Lanka has borrowed, the Front Line Socialist Party (FLSP) yesterday called for an independent forensic audit by a reputed institution. FLSP Secretary -Education Affairs Pubudu Jayagoda told the media that any probe by the Finance Ministry could not be credible because of a conflict of interest. “What is needed is a forensic audit carried out by a responsible institution. “ How can the Finance Ministry carry out a probe on its own self?” he asked.
Jayagoda asked as to why the responsibility of debt servicing was transferred to the Ministry of Finance from the Central Bank. “Why would the Central Bank exist.
“We wonder what President Anura Kumara Dissanayake meant when he said digital safety is guaranteed with experts such as former Dialog chief Hans Wijayasuriya. What more can we expect with regard to the exercise of preparing a database of all Sri Lankans for the purpose of issuing digital identity cards in a situation where there is no digital safety.” he added. Jayagoda proposed the involvement of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance (COPF) in the probe into the incident.
