Controversial Jaffna District Member of Parliament, Ramanathan Archchuna, was allegedly involved in a heated confrontation on Saturday (April 25), during which he was seen brandishing a firearm while arguing with a woman over a disputed plot of land in the Periyavilan area.
The incident reportedly occurred while the MP was engaged in clearing the land in question. It was reported that two women arrived at the location, asserting that a portion of the property belonged to them. This led to a verbal altercation between the MP and the women.
Following the circulation of the video, MP Archchuna, said that the group had entered the property and disrupted his work, and that stones were allegedly thrown at him during the incident.
He said that, due to what he described as a threat to his safety, he used his personal firearm, which he said was provided by the defence ministry, to defend himself and bring the situation under control. He said that he had no intention of harming anyone.
