The Acting Inspector General of Police has appointed four officers, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to assist the three-member committee investigating suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The committee, appointed to probe allegations of gross abuse of power by the IGP, had formally requested the Acting IGP to nominate a police investigation team to support its ongoing inquiry. In addition, the Attorney General has nominated Additional Solicitor General (President’s Counsel) Dileepa Peiris and Deputy Solicitor General Rajitha Perera to assist the parliamentary-appointed committee.
The committee is scheduled to reconvene on April 28, 2025, to decide on its next course of action.
