22 Men in Saffron robes arrested at BIA with drugs

A group of 22 men in robes who had attempted to smuggle illegal intoxicants including Hash and Kush were arrested on Saturday night(25) at the Katunayake International Airport by the Police Anti- Narcotics Bureau.   

Police said the street value of the stock of contraband was more than Rs. 11million. Investigations revealed that the suspects were Sri Lankans from different areas of the country who arrived after a short visit to Thailand on April 22.   

A senior official of the Anti-Narcotic Bureau said they carried out the raid on intelligence received.   

He said the stock of Kush and Hash seized during the raid was the largest ever seized at the airport and that it was for the first time that a group of suspects in robes were arrested for smuggling illegal intoxicants.
