Several large-scale narcotics hauls have already been destroyed following court approvals
At least 130,000 kilograms of narcotics seized during the ongoing “Ratama Ekata” (A Nation United) operation from October 30, 2025 to date are to be destroyed, police said.
DIG of the Police Narcotics Bureau, Ashoka Dharmasena said that more than 160,000 suspects have been arrested since the launch of the operation.
He made these remarks at an event held yesterday under judicial supervision, where a stock of narcotics seized during police raids was destroyed.
The destruction followed the completion of relevant court proceedings. Police said that nearly 302 kilograms of narcotics seized by the Police Narcotics Bureau were incinerated at the Laktowatta incinerator in Wanathawilluwa, Puttalam.
The “Ratama Ekata” operation was launched with the objective of eradicating drug trafficking and related criminal activities.
Police revealed that the total seizures during the operation include 1,917 kilograms and 309 grams of heroin, 1,979 kilograms and 622 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 271 kilograms and 396 grams of cocaine, and 5,158 kilograms and 874 grams of cannabis. In addition, 7,903,470 cannabis plants have been taken into custody.
Investigations into the illegal assets of 215 individuals have also been launched since the beginning of the operation. Meanwhile, more than 2,500 suspects are currently being held under detention orders for further interrogation.
Police further said that several large-scale narcotics hauls have already been destroyed following court approvals. On March 13, 2026, around 173 kilograms of drugs were incinerated, while on January 2, 2026, at least 171 kilograms of heroin were destroyed.
