A mother from Welegoda in Matara launched a fast-unto-death at the main entrance of the Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya urging the authorities to admit her daughter to the school. She told reporters that her child had been left without a school for more than nine months and pointed out that the distance from her home to the school was only 300 meters.
