War heroes honoured by ACUCF

Let’s clarify definition of “war heroes” Monday, 26 January 2026 11:59 PM

What a ridiculous statement! How many people were civilians by day, and tigers by night? Too many sided with the enemy either by supporting them or by fighting with them. In other countries, these would be labelled as “enemies”, not war heroes. As for the arbitrary figure of 40,000; that has never been based on any evidence, and is open to interpretation.

If not for our brave security forces, we would have lost parts of our country including two thirds of our coastline. Commemorating them for all their sacrifices is the least we can do, as Sri Lankans, just like other countries commemorate their war heroes. Those who question this, or see it as an insult, should start questioning their loyalty to Sri Lanka, and whether they wish to remain here.
