Nearly 4,000 rural schoolchildren in Ampara and Maha Oya districts will receive educational supplies worth Rs 5,000 each this December, as part of the initiative entering its eighth year.

Beginning in 2018, the organisation behind this effort, the Tarana Foundation, has donated school packs to 2,500-3,500 rural students, sports equipment, and library books in the districts of Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Servuwavila, Bandarawela, Monaragala, and Polonnaruwa every year.

Tarana Foundation is a secular organisation, which was established in 2018 with 15 members and has since grown into a registered Non-Profit Charity Foundation (Company by Guarantee – No. GA 00211699). The organisation states that it is a 100% volunteer-led organisation, to enhance and strengthen the socio-economic norms of rural communities in Sri Lanka.

“We believe in empowering future generations through access to education,” the foundation stated, noting that the project relies entirely on donor contributions from both local and international supporters. The organisation has partnered with individuals, corporate entities and non-governmental organisations both locally and overseas to sustain its operations.

The Goals of the Organisation

This organisation focuses on the five (05) key 2030 Sustainable Development Goals of Health Care, Education, Water & Sanitation, Housing and Climate & Environment.
