St. Bridget’s Convent Choir Win Gold and Silver Awards at Singapore International Choir Festival 2026

The Choir of St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo 07, proudly announce an outstanding achievement at the prestigious Singapore International Choir Festival (SICF) 2026, securing one Gold Award and two Silver Awards across three competitive categories. This remarkable success brings honour to the school and to Sri Lanka, reflecting the choristers’ musical excellence, discipline and commitment on an international stage.

The Singapore International Choir Festival is recognised as a vibrant showcase of vocal excellence and artistic expression, bringing together choirs from around the world to demonstrate their musicianship and unique cultural heritage. According to the official festival information, the competition is open to amateur choirs, including choirs from conservatories and music academies, underscoring the high standards and international calibre of the event.

The Gold Award was won in the Equal Voices category for choristers aged 12 years and below, while Silver Awards were secured in the Musica Sacra Open category and the Folklore Open category.

This accomplishment represents a defining moment in the history of St. Bridget’s Convent and a moment of national pride for Sri Lanka. With approximately 175 students forming one of the largest contingents at the festival, the school showcased not only musical talent but also unity, cultural identity and collective dedication.

The choristers demonstrated exceptional versatility through performances spanning children’s songs, sacred music and cultural repertoire. Their presentations reflected precision, depth and artistic expression. The Folklore performance, in particular, celebrated Sri Lanka’s rich heritage through carefully curated traditional musical forms, powerful vocal harmonies and expressive choreography.

The achievements were made possible through the dedicated leadership and expert guidance of past pupils of the school, viz the Choir Directresses Mrs Priyanthi Seneviratne Van Dort and Ms Harindi De Silva, with choreography by Ms Malinthi Kulathunga, whose contribution elevated the visual and performance aspects of the presentations.

The school gratefully acknowledges the progressive and bold leadership of the Principals, Rev. Sr. Sujani Fernando and Rev. Sr. Dilrukshika Silva, whose support enabled a large contingent of students to represent the school and the country at this international event.

A special thank you to Mr Maneesh Dasanayake for his brilliant piano accompaniment, which no doubt enhanced the choir performance. Appreciation is also extended to Mr Samantha Amarajeewa and Mrs Jayani Amarajeewa for their guidance and preparation of the Folklore songs, Mr Thusitha Amarawansa for training the choristers in the art of playing the Oriental Kandyan, Davula and Thamattam drums and Mr Nuwan Balasooriya for training the flautists. 

This milestone is especially significant as St. Bridget’s Convent approaches its 125th anniversary. The success of the choirs stands as a powerful reflection of the school’s enduring legacy of excellence and its commitment to nurturing well-rounded students while preserving cultural heritage and embracing global opportunities.
