Sri Lankan films at Indian Buddhist film festival



Kalyan International Buddhist Film Festival will be held on May 2 at Nalanda Auditorium in Kalyan City of Maharashtra for the first time.  It is organised by the World Cultural Organisation. WCO Director Ashok Jagatkar says it will be organised for the propagation of Buddhism.

“Because of that, we decided to hold it for the Buddha Purnima (Vesak) season. Only short features and documentaries have been selected for this festival. They must be based on Buddhist themes. All the films are screened with Buddhist subtitles.

 “Films from Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nepal and India will be screened. Sri Lankan filmmaker’s Rodney Widanapathirana’s feature film “Ira Sevaya” (Sunrise) will be screened as a special screening, Ashok Jagatkar added.

The films of Lucien Weerapperuma, Kasun Sankalpa, Mohan Dinesh Samaranayake (Sri Lanka), Dr. Jusvis Chawla (India), Nagesh Wahurhash (India) will be screened at this festival.
