‘Poems from Galle’ on the cards Chandana Jayanetti launches second poetry collection



Poems From Galle is Chandana’s second book of poetry after his first, Reflections in Loneliness, published in 2015

Poems From Galle, the new collection of poems by Chandana Ruwan Jayanetti, will be launched at 2.00 p.m. on Saturday, the 20th December, at Dakshinapaya, the Auditorium of the Chief Ministry, Southern Provincial Council, Labuduwa, Galle.

The book has an introduction by Kamala Wijeratne, a veteran poet and writer, and Professor Lalith Ananda Gamage. The book is dedicated to Emeritus Professor Rajiva Wijesinha, Chandana’s university teacher. Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha will also be the Chief Guest, while Poet Kamala Wijeratne will be the Guest of Honour. Saman Indrajith, Deputy Editor of The Island and Sunday Island newspapers, writes a detailed Foreword. In addition, Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha will also deliver a review of the book.

Veteran Sinhala poet and lyricist Dr. Rathna Sri Wijesinghe and Hon. Dr. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, and Hon. Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Minister of Health and Mass Media, will also be present. Poems From Galle is Chandana’s second book of poetry after his first, Reflections in Loneliness, published in 2015. Poetry recitation and solo music are on the agenda, with a musical performance by Praneeth Saranga, the famous violinist of the SLBC orchestra. Chandana is a Senior lecturer in English at the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education- SLAITE, and works at the Galle Advanced Technological Institute(ATI). He is also the Head of its English Department.
