The much awaited choral presentation involving over 300 singers will take place at the Chapel of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10 on Palm Sunday (March 24) at 6.00 pm.
According to a release issued by the organizers of the event the multifaceted choral renditions will trace the last days of Jesus of Nazareth, culminating in his resurrection.
These include Christ’s defiant entry into Jerusalem that provoked a riot, his poignant Last Supper where he gave us himself in bread and wine, the Betrayal, the fake trial and condemnation, torturous journey to Calvary, the cruel Crucifixion, death and his glorious resurrection. The 70 member, St. Cecilia’s choir of St. Joseph’s College will commence the event with the glorious hymn Lauda Jerusalem followed by the contemporary song, The King is Coming and thereafter the classical compositions, Ave Verum Corpus and AdoramusTe will follow. Other selections will include Gethsemane, Above All Power, Kalwariye, Viyagula Ma Mariye and many more. The awe inspiring presentation will conclude with Handel’s glorious work The Halleluiah Chorus.
Most Rev. Dr. Winston Fernando, the Emeritus Bishop of Badulla will preside at this event.
This rare choral programme is free and all those who cherish exquisite choral artistry are cordially invited to attend and to be immensely inspired.
