A medical grade Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant for patients undergoing hemodialysis was recently launched at the Colombo National Hospital. The plant provides purified water to the medical intensive care unit for patients with acute kidney injury. The newly established facility can provide high-purity water for hemodialysis treatment for six kidney patients at a time, with the potential to expand its capacity to accommodate up to ten patients as needed. The RO system was built by Sri Lanka Navy with funds provided by Sanken Overseas (Pvt) Ltd.
