Kotahena Radhakrishna Temple consecration on February 1

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) mentioned in this article was founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Shown in picture) in 1966

The Kumbabhishekam (consecration) of Kotahena Sri Radhakrishna Temple will be celebrated on February 1.

Various events are also being celebrated in this temple in Kotahena on special days such as Krishna Janmashtami, Rama Navami, and Gaura Purnima.

In addition, the Jagannath Rath Yatra, which has been taking place in India for thousands of years, was also started in Sri Lanka and has been continued for 20 years.

The Jagannath Rath Yatra has been temporarily suspended following the commencement of temple construction work. This Jagannath Rath Yatra is going to be held continuously again after the temple consecration.

As the work of the temple began to expand day by day, its services, such as Gokulam Bhaktivedanta Children’s Home, Cow Sanctuary, and Music and Dance College, have also been started and are progressing. The temple is engaged in social work also as well as spiritual work.

Meanwhile, the great dream of the devotees was to build a grand temple for Lord Krishna. Temple Priest Mahakartha Das wrote many articles about that desire and the benefits of building a temple, in the “Hare Krishna” magazine run by the society at that time.  It is a matter of great joy that wish has now been fulfilled.

The foundation stone for the new temple was laid in 2013, as a star of hope for that desire. The construction of a temple for Lord Krishna has now been completed. The date has been set for the Kumbabhishekam (consecration). The temple consecration ceremony will be held to welcome devotees from all over the country and abroad. Many people have contributed with dedication to the establishment of this temple.

The temple community expresses its gratitude to those kind souls. This temple has been developed in a modern and ambitious manner to provide more devotional and social services to the people.

According to Swami Prahalad’s (Prahlad is a term used to describe a saintly boy) birth horoscope, he was predicted to attain world fame in spiritual service at the age of 70. An astrologer predicted that he would cross the ocean, become a great spiritualist, and establish 108 temples.

This prediction came true after he moved to America in 1965 at the age of 70. Today, hundreds of temples have been built all over the world by the Krishna Consciousness Society, which he founded.

The temple administration requests those interested in International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) activities and the Kumbabishekam to contact R. Rajalingam of the Sri Sri Radhakrishna Temple, Kotahena, Colombo-13 on 0772288166.
