The Installation Ceremony of JCI Colombo marked an important milestone for the chapter with a proud legacy of over six decades
The Installation Ceremony of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Colombo took place recently at 80 Club of Colombo. The event marked an important milestone for the chapter and was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Deshamanya Ajitha de Zoysa, several National Officers, Chapter Presidents, and JCI Senators.
JCI Colombo carries a proud legacy spanning over six decades and is the very first chapter established in Sri Lanka, founded in 1954 by a young visionary named Sam Wimalasekara. It is also the first chapter in Sri Lanka and across Asia to have its own dedicated Secretariat, located in Colombo 07. The organisation functions as a dynamic network that empowers young individuals to develop leadership skills, drive positive community impact, and build strong global connections.
JC Khalid Ur Rahman was elected as the President of JCI Colombo for the year 2026, embracing the theme ‘Lead, Innovate and Collaborate to Create Lasting Impact.’ Khalid remarked: “I come with a strong will to collaborate beyond borders, to utilise the International Network JCI has to offer, in order to strengthen the global presence of JCI Colombo through International Delegations.”
He further shared his strategic vision to actively contribute to society, and uphold the rich legacy of JCI Colombo. Following his address, JC Khalid, together with his office bearers, formally took the oath of office, marking the beginning of a new era of dynamic leadership for the chapter.
Chief Guest Deshamanya Ajitha de Zoysa, Chairman of AEC Limited, is a highly esteemed corporate leader and a distinguished figure within the JCI movement. He served as President of JCI Colombo in 1967, followed by his role as National President of JCI Sri Lanka in 1972. In recognition of his service to the nation, he was conferred the prestigious National Honour ‘Deshamanya’ by the President of Sri Lanka in 2019.
His leadership and philanthropic efforts continue to inspire generations of young Jaycees across the nation.He addressed the audience with a nostalgic speech, reflecting on his time in JCI and the significant role the organisation played in shaping his personal and professional journey.
Overall, the event not only served as a celebration of JCI Colombo’s achievements in empowering young leaders, but also set a clear direction for the future, reinforcing the chapter’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and social service in the years ahead.
