In Honour of The Boys in Blue

Forty-four years
Soaring high,
Under the blue and
Tempestuous sky,
Winds of change and
Storms of fate,
We stood steadfastly—
Resolute and great.
In skies of courage,
You defy,
Bound not by fear, nor
Pausing to ask why;
Every mission, a
Pledge of heart and
Soul,
A saga of duty,
With honour as its goal.
With fearlessness and strength,
We have flown,
Through battles fierce
Where our valour was shown;
A guardian’s vigil,
Both day and night,
Defending freedom,
Truth, and sacred rights.
A legacy of gallantry,
Proudly shown,
In wings of steel
And hearts of stone,
An enduring symbol
Of courage and grace,
Carved in the annals
Of time and space.
In the silent hush
Before the storm,
In the radiant glow
Of a new day born,
We remember each sacrifice and every fight,
A tapestry of bravery in the endless sky’s light.
Now, as the years gracefully unfold,
Our story, in whispered winds, is told;
A beacon that inspires
Hearts anew,
A bridge from legacy to
Dreams pursued.
May these skies forever
Carry your names,
An eternal tribute to
Honour and flame;
For in every cloud and
Every distant star,
Lies the promise of
Hope—resilient and far.
This poem is a tribute to the fallen heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force 9th Intake who enlisted on 12 February 1981.
