HelpAge New Year card sale revenue supports free cataract surgeries to underprivileged elderly citizens



Every year HelpAge releases New Year, Vesak, X’mas and birthday cards to support the needy section in the society

HelpAge Sri Lanka releases over 100,000 New Year greeting cards to provide free cataract surgeries to underprivileged elderly citizens in the country

HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) this year released over 100,000 New Year greeting cards to provide free cataract surgeries to underprivileged elderly citizens in the country.

The proceeds from card sales are also utilised to conduct free mobile medical and eye care camps for elderly citizens over 55 years.

HelpAge Sri Lanka is a charitable organization that was established in Sri Lanka to resolve medical and low vision issues faced by destitute Sri Lankan elderly citizens. Every year HelpAge releases New Year, Vesak, X’mas and birthday cards to support needy section in the society.

Executive Director Dr. Harsha Bandara said that there is a marked improvement in donations being made by people towards the HelpAge free cataract surgery programme, that has been conducted for the past 40 years. He said that HelpAge expects similar donations from donors towards these programmes.  

Eye Hospital Manager Mahanama Wijesinghe said that HelpAge Eye Hospital conducts free cataract surgeries for 20 low income elderly citizens every day at HelpAge Eye Hospital Wellawatta (opposite Savoy Cinema).

The HelpAge, Fundraising division also expresses its gratitude to book shops in Colombo and suburban areas for promoting HelpAge greeting cards; these cards could also be purchased from HelpAge Head Office at Rattanapitiya, Borelasgamuwa.
