Hansi Kanchana, a resident of Kotugoda, and a mother of two girls aged 11 and 8, had been enjoying her life till suddenly falling ill in 2022. She was a devoted mother of 32, at the time, and a loving wife to her husband. Leaving everyone in shock, she was diagnosed with having Leukemia (AML) four years ago.
After two Chemotherapy sessions in 2022, her condition improved and she was living an ordinary life before falling sick again at the end of last year. This time, after another chemotherapy session, medical officers realised that a Bone Marrow Transplant surgery is required. The expected amount for the surgery and treatment is more than 15 million rupees and the surgery will be done at the Nawaloka hospital, Colombo, under the guidance of Dr. Pradeep Siriwardena -- haemato oncologist at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.
It is quite obvious and hardly needs to be said here that her well-being is important to her family and loved ones, especially to her young daughters. But the family finds it impossible to find Rs. 15 million on their own for surgery, as it’s a colossal sum. Therefore, they have no option but to seek public help. Any amount, however small, that a well wisher could contribute would be deeply appreciated by her loving ones who are going through a very stressed and depressing time at the moment.
