German Dharmaduta Society holds 74th AGM

German Dharmaduta Society (GDS), the governing body of the Europe’s oldest Theravada Buddhist temple, namely the 102 years old ‘Berlin Viharaya’ in Frohanu, Germany, held its 74th annual general meeting at the auditorium of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA), Stanley Wijesundara Mw, Colombo 07 on June 21 2026.

New members were elected at this occasion. The Past President Major General (Ret.) Sardha Abeyratne has handed over his post to New President (Prof) Dr. S.H. Perera, Prof. Perera  is also the first Chanceller of Sethsanda University of Alternative Naturopaty – USA.

Three Vice Presidents were elected -- namely Prof. Saman Nanayakkara, Dean,  faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya,  Dr. Newton Peiris and Ms. Shenali Waduge.

Attorney-at-law and a Trustee of the G.D.S. Mr. Senaka Weeraratna was elected as the Hony. General Secretary and Mr. Lal Wijesena as  Assistant Secretary,  and Mr. Cecil Hettiarachchi as the Treasurer.

Eight committee members were also elected --  Attorney-at-Law Dr. K.A.S. Keeragala, Attorney-at-Law Mr. Thissa Bandara, Mr. Wickramasiri Jayawickrama, Mr. Marc Indika Sahabandu, Mr. Mahesha Yahampath, Mr. Kanishka Meewewa, Ms. Delini Meewewa, and Mr. Chandra De Silva.
