Daybridge International School Celebrates their Annual Sports Meet 2026



Daybridge International School proudly hosted its much-anticipated Annual Sports Meet 2026. The grand event was graced by the distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Dushan Lalisha Kahatapitya, a celebrated National Boxing Champion, whose presence inspired both students and staff alike.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the Olympic torch, by the school athletic captain and the representatives of the four houses of our school, Einstein, Lincoln, Winston and Mandela symbolizing unity and the spirit of sportsmanship. This was followed by the hoisting of the National, School and the olympic flag respectively by the Directress, Mrs Iromi Weerasinghe, Principal, Mrs Dilrukshi Jayarathne and Sports Coordinator, Mr. Nadun Madugalla marking the formal beginning of the day’s proceedings. The Director, Mr. Ruven Weerasinghe, then officially declared the Sports Meet 2026 open, initating a day filled with excitement, competition, and camaraderie.

A warm and dignified welcome was extended to the Chief Guest by the Directress, Mrs. Iromi Weerasinghe; Director, Mr. Ruven Weerasinghe; Head of Administration, Mrs. Venuri Weerasinghe; Principal, Mrs. Dilrukshi Jayarathne; Deputy Principal, Mrs. Nilufa Fariz; Primary Principal, Mrs. Sudeesha Lokuge; Vice Principal, Mrs. Yasmin Heenpella; and Head Prefect, Aaron Nash, as they all ceremoniously escorted the Chief Guest to the grounds, accompanied by the school brass band, which added splendour and grandeur to the occasion.

The day unfolded with a series of energetic performances, competitive athletes in the relays and running events. A captivating opening act was presented by our secondary school dancing troupe entertaining the crowd. In addition to that, an vibrant drill display was showcased by the primary section students. Students participated in a wide range of track and field events, demonstrating exceptional athleticism, determination, and sportsmanship. The AMI Montessori also delighted the audience with their energetic and engaging events, highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent from the earliest years.Finally the procession of the march past began emphasising on the discipline, unity, and team spirit of the four houses. 

After a series of competitive performances, the Union Place Montessori Branch stood out with remarkable creativity and was recognized for the Best Decorated Tent while the Waidya place branch brought victory from the Montessori mixed branch 4x4 relay. 

Einstein House emerged as the Champion House of Sports Day 2026, earning well-deserved applause for their outstanding performance. Winston House was awarded the title of ‘Best Squad’ for their impressive coordination and discipline during the march past. Lincoln House claimed the award for Best Decorated House, showcasing creativity and teamwork in their vibrant displays. 

Sports Day 2026 was not only a celebration of athletic excellence but also a testament to teamwork, leadership, and the holistic development fostered at Daybridge International School. 

The event concluded on a high note, leaving behind cherished memories of joy, achievement, and unity within the Daybridge community.
