Commemorative stamp for Vivekananda College centenary



Staff members and past students of the Vivekananda College, Colombo display the commemorative stamps, covers and postcards


Colombo Vivekananda College, established on March 24, 1926 as the first Tamil-medium school in the city of Colombo, will mark its centenary with the release of a commemorative postage stamp, a commemorative cover, and two commemorative postal cards issued by the Philatelic Bureau, Department of Posts, Sri Lanka. 

The official release of the commemorative stamp, cover, and postal cards will take place on March 24, 2026 at a special ceremony at Vivekananda College.

This commemorative event is organised on behalf of the Vivekananda College Old Students’ Association by the fraternity of students who sat for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in 1995 and the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in 1998. The commemorative covers and postal cards will be distributed free of charge to all members of the academic staff and to all students at the school.

A special meeting was held on January 21, 2026 at Vivekananda College with the Principal of the College, M. Moovendan, old students’ groups of the 1995 G.C.E. Ordinary Level and 1998 G.C.E. Advanced Level batches, and the Secretary of the Vivekananda College Old students’ Association, G. Muruganandan, with regard to the issuance of the commemorative stamps, covers and postcards.
