A research team from the University of Colombo has successfully translated years of scientific study on Sri Lankan indigenous botanicals into a high-performing, natural cosmetic ingredient complex.

The complex, comprising seven botanical extracts, was scientifically validated for its efficacy in anti-ageing, antioxidant, and skin-brightening properties through advanced testing carried out in Sri Lanka, Germany, and Japan. The research team was led by Prof. Nimal Punyasiri of the University of Colombo, and included Prof. Kanchana Abeysekara and Prof. Kaushalya Abeysekara of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura as co-investigators.

The University of Colombo partnered with Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd, a leading research-oriented natural cosmetics company and manufacturer of Nature’s Secrets, for this public-private collaborative research project.

Shamindi Kumarasinghe, Export Director of Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd, announced that two unique skin care collections-Forest Range and Night Blossoms-were developed using this scientifically validated ingredient complex, alongside additional high-performing botanical actives, for both export and Sri Lankan markets. She added that the plants used in the ingredient complex are sourced sustainably from the company’s own botanical sanctuary.

The launch was attended by the research team, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Prof/ Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Director of the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB) Prof. Prasanna Galhena, deans, heads of departments, and senior academic staff representing the Faculties of Science and Technology of the University of Colombo, as well as Nature’s Beauty Creations Ltd’s Director/Group CEO Samira Fonseka, Deputy General Manager Dickshan Senadeera, Export Director Shamindi Kumarasinghe, and Head of R&D and Agriculture Warnajith Chandrarathna.
