Hansi Kanchana, a resident of Opatha, Kotugoda, was diagnosed with having Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in 2022. She was a devoted mother of two daughters(aged 8 and 11) and a loving wife to her husbandwhen she heard the shattering news about her health at age 32. Daily Mirror carried an article about her in the second week of January revealing her condition and the details.
As mentioned in the article, medical officers who treat her state that a Bone Marrow Transplant surgery needs to be done to cure her. The amount that needs to be raised for the surgery and treatment is more than 15 million rupees. Plans are afoot to perform the surgery at Nawaloka hospital, Colombo under the guidance of Dr. Pradeep Siriwardena -- Haemato Oncologist of Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama.
Her Marrow cells and tissues have been sent to India and USA for further testing and the operation is scheduled to be done in the second week of February. As she belongs to a less affluent family, her loved ones have found it difficult to raise the needed funds for treatment. As the dates for the operation near, her family members are experiencing stressful and anxious timesdue to lack of funds.
They have nowhere to look except seek assistance from the public. Her family states that any amount that could be contributed to her cause is much appreciated.
