In 1985, following the appointment of her husband, Dr. Ajita Wijesundere, as the consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Polonnaruwa Base Hospital, Dr. Anula Wijesundere submitted her application for the vacant position of Consultant Physician at the same hospital.
