St. Bridget’s Convent 125th Jubilee Year

On February 2, 2026, St. Bridget’s Convent marked St. Bridget’s Day with a historic celebration that officially launched its 125th Jubilee year. The event, held at the Primary School grounds, brought together the entire school community—Collegiate, Primary, and Montessori—standing in unity to honor this milestone.

The Principals of all three schools, Rev. Sr. Sujani Fernando (Collegiate), Rev. Sr. Dilukshika Silva (Primary), and Rev. Sr. Velani De Silva (Montessori), joined hands with teachers and past pupils to make the occasion a resounding success. Their collective presence symbolized the strength of tradition and the spirit of togetherness that defines St. Bridget’s.

The celebration began with Holy Mass, celebrated by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. J. D. Anthony Jayakody, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo. Following the Mass, Rev. Sr. Sujani Fernando officially inaugurated the Jubilee year, on the theme “ Legacy of Learning and Light” while Rev. Sr. Roshanthi Ranwatte, Province Leader of the Congregation of the Good Shepherd, unveiled the Jubilee logo. The 125th Jubilee Logo of St Bridget’s Convent, is a symbol born of creativity, legacy and faith. The emblem was thoughtfully designed by Nethanya Wickramaratne, Nicole Fernando and Prishca Sivananthan, three talented Bridgetines selected through a creative competition that celebrated student vision and expression. Their work was lovingly guided and mentored by Ms. Dinuka De Alwis a distinguished past Bridgetine (2007) and professional designer based in France whose expertise helped refine their idea and bring their collective vision to life.

Every element of this design has been carefully crafted, woven with symbols dear to every Bridgetine’s heart, representing the past, present, and future of our beloved Alma Mater.

The Four Shamrocks – a timeless emblem:

The first represents the firm foundation on which our school was built.

The second honours Past Bridgetines, the bearers of our cherished legacy.

The third symbolizes us, the present generation, empowered by knowledge and technology.

The fourth signifies the future generations, full of promise and potential.

These shamrocks show how the present is uplifted by the past, forming a continuous chain of growth, guidance, and inspiration. The Swirled Link embodies Excellence, Faith, and Sisterhood- the sacred bond connecting all Bridgetines across time.

It also reflects the many paths Bridgetines have chosen, showing that whilst each journey is unique, All are united at the heart.

The font was chosen for its artistry and creativity, reflecting the spirit of celebration while echoing our guiding motto: Gently and Firmly.

Finally, our milestone years are highlighted:

1902 – the humble yet powerful beginning of our journey.

2027 – a marker of our continuing mission and call to progress.

The golden lining on these numbers represents the far-reaching influence of a Bridgetine life… sharing God’s light in our personal journeys, within our families, Across the community, throughout the nation, and extending into the wider world.

This logo is a reminder that the lessons we learn at St. Bridget’s Convent extend far beyond these gates, shaping who we are and who we are called to become.

The Jubilee Song –  a heartfelt tribute and gratitude to our enduring legacy and spirituality, composed and arranged by Mrs. Priyanthi Seneviratne VanDort  (SBC Batch of 1980) was sung in one voice lead by the Collegiate and Primary choirs.

The day concluded with two symbolic acts: the blessing of the statue of St. Bridget and the planting of a Na tree sapling, representing growth, legacy, and the enduring values of the institution.
