National Institute of Mental Health 100th Anniversary

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) recently marked its 100th anniversary, celebrating a century of dedicated service to mental healthcare in Sri Lanka. Established in 1926, the institution has evolved into the country’s premier psychiatric hospital, providing treatment, rehabilitation, training, and community outreach. The centenary celebrations honoured past and present healthcare professionals whose commitment transformed mental health services and reduced stigma nationwide. Special events, professional gatherings, and the release of a commemorative postage stamp highlighted this historic milestone.
