Kumar de Silva’s recent cover version of ‘Ganga Addara’, with his daughter Anarkali has been making news since it was launched on March 24. And what a surprise it was for Mrs. Sumitra Peries when she first got to hear it on her birthday morning that day.
“Oh this is fabulous. This is the surprises of surprises. This song has kept me alive in the public eye. It has been popular and it is ever popular”, she said beamingly.
Sharing vocals with Kumar was his daughter Anarkali. Neranjan de Silva handled the musical arrangement, orchestration, audio production, camera and editing with Ravibandhu Vidyapathy on tabla, thalampota and rattles.
While the video’s beautiful visuals were shot at Tri Koggala, the two singers’ faces are never seen even once. “There is a reason for this. We wanted this cover version to have its own identity and not tagged to two people’s faces. I think the boatman gliding across the Koggala lake is far more effective and blends in with the sonorous quality of the song, than our faces in there”, Kumar said.
