Dining Space Design

Ancient Chinese believed that the energy of your kitchen/dining kitchen and dining area are directly correlated to your wealth. When there is no money, there is no food on the table; as simple as that.

Therefore, in Feng Shui, the dining area is considered vital.

Everything has a position and dimension, and we need to ensure that our design concepts incorporate the correct size and placement. Homes with fireplaces must ensure that the fireplace is positioned against a wall, not in the middle of the room. Remember, fireplaces bring in Yang energy, but since they produce smoke—which, in Feng Shui, is considered negative chi—proper ventilation is essential.

The dining area signifies not only the prosperity of the family but also the harmony and bonding that occur when sharing meals together.  Getting the dining room Feng Shui right fosters excellent family relationships, with spouses and siblings getting along well and supporting each other.

Mirrors in the dining area are considered beneficial and are said to enhance fortunes, as they symbolically double the food on the table. Placing a mirror on the north wall is believed to improve protection for the household's livelihood. However, care must be taken to ensure that the mirror does not reflect the main door, toilets, or the stove in the kitchen. Mirrors also add depth and a sense of space to the dining area, but it is important to avoid using a dining table that is too large, as this can create a cramped feeling and make the space less enjoyable

One way to enhance good fortune is by placing a picture of fruit in the dining area; this not only creates positive energy but also symbolizes the continual availability of food supplies to the household.

Alternatively, placing a bowl of fresh fruit in a yellow bowl on the dining table would be even more effective and realistic.

Quite often, small changes in our environment and paying attention to specific areas in our home can help us realize that we have cleared some obstacles and that things have started improving. Therefore, understanding our environment and living space, and aligning them with the principles of Feng Shui, ensures continuous prosperity, growth, and good health for the occupants.

Do not place clutter or receipts on the table, as they may symbolize doubling your bills and creating more clutter.

Six is the ideal number of chairs to place around the table; even eight is considered auspicious.

Make sure the table is not placed beneath an exposed beam, as this will cause conflicts.
