This track was laid by our local engineers. However poor maintenance. Poor supervision by those who are expected to supervise these tracks. SL is going from bad to worse. Give the rolling stock and track maintenance to a foreign country.

Please sir, while appreciating your concern, is “handing over SL to foreign powers” the right answer. The systems change that we are crying for has to be from top to bottom. From the President of the country to the Railway linesman we have all been derelict in duty to our country.

    Cause of concern

This sector is notorious for derailing. And we claim that local engineers are better than the others. Shut down SLGR. Lease out the operating rights to IR (who has the best experience in this region) or similar foreign company. Even after giving a handsome golden handshake to SLGR staff- - The GOSL will earn good dollars, the operators will earn good profits and the people will enjoy a better service.

What if Sri Lanka had modern trains like in the West, traveling at over 200km per hour. Then a derailment could easily result in 100 deaths. Why aren't the responsible engineers brought to court and sentenced? But as is customary in Sri Lanka, they just say "shit happens".

Lack of Maintenance of the track and rolling stock is the reason?? The track mintenenace is SLACK notice from the overgrown gras by the side of the track??? This never happened during B D Rampala's Time?? Modern times, even with modern machinery and equipment at hand, everything is in Parlous state?? State of Mind of Track and Rolling stock maintenance staff??!!??

These are Indian trains and the tracks are also laid by the Indians. That scum called D B S Jeyaraj masquerading as “ Engineer” has deliberately misled by saying it was laid by local engineer. We never had so many derailments in such short time, it all started after we surrendered our railway to the Indians.

It is noticeable that most derailments are chinese made trains which are much lighter than the Indian made trains. I travel on the northern line regularly. I believe that the trains travel too fast for the condition of the track. Slowing the trains will make it safer whilst we wait (forever) for the money to repair the track.

Tissa Fernando Sunday, 09 October 2022 08:31 AM

Indian locomotives which are not compatible with our tracks are causing the problem. If you want to develop this railway, hand it over to a Japanese company for 5 years.

    WSW Sunday, 09 October 2022 08:55 AM

Sri Lanka will never ever have modern trains that travel at hyper speeds for multiple reason, so relax.

    wsw Sunday, 09 October 2022 09:01 AM

@Dee, handing over to IR is a step backwards with catestrophic implications. Mindset should be to move away from India and China and look towards either Japan, Sth Korea or the West.

@ Tissa, The tracks beyond Vavuniya upto KKS were the ones built by Indians. Anyone travelling in that stretch could experience the noise less, jerk less travel while the trains move even at 120kmph. The Indians are to start work on the Vavuniya , Maho stretch from January next year and are supposed to complete it by may.

    Arumugam Sunday, 09 October 2022 01:43 PM

@ Tisa - you are talking BS. Indians laid the track and built the stations only from Omanthai to KKS. These tracks were completely removed by the militant force to build bunkers. Have you ever travelled by train from Colombo to KKS? First travel and see. From CBO to Omanthai the trains are very shaky to travel. From Omanthai to KKS the trains travel fast and are very very smooth travel. Please don’t comment without experience in travel by train up and down.

Tissa. Please take a tablet for diarrhea!

    Tissa Monday, 10 October 2022 01:53 AM

DBS Jeyaraj, You are talking through your backside in order to get you weekly Indian rupees. Indians were working on Sri Lankan railway tracks at least one year before laying tracks between Omanthi and KKS. You idiot !!!
