"UNP is still our ancestral home and we love it, but we will only support a program to revive the nation which is established with the agreement of all parties", Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mayantha Dissanayake said today.

Responding to a question raised at a press conference as to whether he was planning a crossover to the government, Mr. Dissanayake said he is not interested in getting ministerial portfolios. “We are only agreeable for an all-party programme rather than an all-party government,” he said.

“Sirikotha is our ancestral home, and we love it. I used to go there with my late father. We still love UNP. We also know its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for a long time. We distanced from the party and formed Samagi Jana Balwegaya (SJB) but the policies of both parties are almost the same. Some get me wrong when I come out with these remarks, but I want to mention that I don’t want to shift sides and take up a ministerial portfolio. However it is possible to work together with the  government on an agreeable program to revive the nation” he added.

He said President and the government should also come up with a program to revive the nation so that MPs can see whether they could agree  to it or not.

At the same time Mr. Dissanayake called for a new anti-corruption legislation to prevent corruption. “It's even possible to bring it in the form of a private members Bill,” he opined.(Yohan Perera)

I don't agree that SJB has the same policies of UNP ! UNP has been ruined and there is no way it can retrieve or resurrect again. SJB has public appealing policies and its members are with strong positive attitudes

No body cares and do not want to hear about the UNP and its Leader who were totally discarded by the Sri Lankan Electorate at the last polls.

Talking about corruption, the Dissanayake’s are no hermits. People know how they abused power since 1977.

Can these anti corruption claims go all the way back to the Mahaweli project days when his father allegedly bought apple plantains and other investments in Australia?

Maybe what MD is referring to is that grand old party that historically unified all communities of this nation in its initial journey between the Donoughmore and Soulbury constitutions. Young potential representatives like MD should encourage all in the breakaway SJB and any young members of the UNP to engage in a serious workshop of introspection as to where they missed the bus of liberal socialist democratic ideals since 1948, so as to truly integrate the lessons of the recent protest movement of Lankans into future political administration that would be both a course correction and a brave new path.

UNP policy was spoiled since 1977 and genuine UNPers has begun kept away from the Partygradually! That's why UNP could not get any electoral MP at the last General Election on August 09, 2020 but an appointed MP !

Declare national elections(not local or provincial). Organized upright people will come up with the agreeable practicable progame and form a new government.
