The time has come to intervene to bring the supreme examinations for venerable monks to internationally accepted standards, Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said.

The Minister said this after participating in an observation tour of the Sri Lanka Buddhist and Pali University in Pitipana, Homagama.

"We should explore whether there is a problem in obtaining special recognition for it internationally. Those international educational agreements must come through agreements. If not, constantly moving towards the existing system, " he said.

"This university has received authority to operate as a unique independent university. The university's powers have been strengthened by passing a separate act in Parliament. Therefore, the requirements here will be added and further strengthened through Parliament," the Minister said.

Steps have been taken to make it a very exemplary university, Minister Gunawardena said. (Chaturanga Samrawickrama)
