Claiming that the struggle should not be given up even after the resignation of the President and the Prime Minister, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said today it should continue until a new government is formed with a new mandate to reap the true benefit of the victory.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that the objective of the struggle was not only the removal of the President and the Prime Minister, but it was aimed at making a system change through a transformation of the 74-year- old failed economic, political and social system.
He said the current economic, political and social crisis would not be resolved even after the resignation of the President and pointed out that a new government with a new mandate should be formed to resolve this crisis situation.
"Some factions are trying to grab power by taking the situation as an advantage. They are trying to appoint a President and Prime Minister through the current Parliament and govern the country. We urge people not to get caught in such ploys. We can achieve the final victory only after forming a new government. We cannot find solutions to the burning issues by the composition of the current Parliament, as the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) still holds the majority in parliament. We need to form an interim government for a short period of time and its first task should be to hold an election," he said.
Mr. Silva said the President had to announce his resignation as he realised that his mandate was negated now and added that the mandate of the Parliament was also negated now.
“Parliament is no longer valid now. This Parliament is not capable of resolving this crisis. It is not either ethical and democratic for this Parliament to resolve the crisis now,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)

Go for an election, you will get only 400 000 votes. People know your system. No freedom , no private sector, only your opinion matters. We know all that. Aragalaya was hijacked by you and Anthare. Now you want to grab power?

You guys want people to be in a never ending struggle. Sri Lanka is not Cuba or north korea. The burning of public property is enough to realise the hidden violent nature of the organisation and what will happen in a few decades if you guys get power.

Be alert, as delay in tendering resignation by President, could have some motive and all be taken unawares.

Like a bankrupt company is taken over by a specialist team, Bankrupt Sri Lanka should be governed by a specialist team and not by politicians (most of them are corrupt) in a all party government

Sure, the struggle should be continued until Gota

If Ranil wants to remain in power and capture the President's seat, never allow. Boys must pull him out from his color and throw him out.
