SL born Ranil Jayawardena is Britain’s new Environment Secretary

Sri Lankan born Ranil Jayawardena has been appointed as Britain’s new Environment Secretary in Liz Truss’ Cabinet, UK media reported yesterday.

While leading the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Mr Jayawardena is expected to be responsible for Britain’s food and agricultural policies.

Being a junior Minister, Jayawardena , was an early backer of new Prime Minister Truss. He became an MP in 2015.

The Conservative MP for North East Hampshire will leave his post as Under-Secretary for International Trade and will take over from George Eustice MP, who held the post for over two years following Boris Johnson’s cabinet reshuffle in February 2020.

“It is a privilege to be appointed the Secretary of State for the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). From food security and backing British farmers, to water security and growing our rural economy, I know that there is much to do. It is so important to recognise where our food comes from.” Jayawardena said in his twitter message.

Daily Mirror, you are totally wrong. Ranil Jayawardena was born on September 3rd, 1986, in London, England. His father, Nalin Jayawardena, is of Sri Lankan origin and moved to the United Kingdom in 1978 to pursue a career in accountancy. His mother, Indira has Indian heritage.

Mr. Ranil Jayawardena was born in UK in 1986. His father who is of Sri Lankan origin immigrated to UK from Sri Lanka in 1978. Please make this correction.

I was about to say the same as another commenter above. Daily Mirror must discover Wikipedia. This country is sooo desperate for fame and go claiming "born here!!!!" the moment someone via their own personal means and willpower achieve a prestigious anything in the world - personal effort - NOT the country's anything that helped them to get there (in fact, the opposite of throwing spanners in their way would have happened).
