Sri Lanka has demonstrated a flagrant and ongoing indifference to the human rights of its citizens. It has had years to make changes and has failed. It cannot be trusted to improve its appalling record without external oversight not least as perpetrators of the worst violations remain in positions of power.

It seems external mechanism only for begging and borrowing - when it comes to accountability then you want domestic mechanism. We have been playing this double game for over 13 years. If external mechanism is not heeded, govt. must hasten implementation of the grievances of the disappeared with housing, employment, educational and a pension scheme, draging this issue further would affect SriLanka's image in the world fora and tend to engineer certain sanctions against SriLanka. Implantation of the 13th amendment is a better solution as well.

When Ranjan was being shuffled into the prison, it's the law, that's what must happen it's the law. When there is any attempt to have scrutiny about any of the forced disappearances here again oh, it's the law, it's the law, it's in the constitution we can't allow for anyone else to check about it. If the IMF had any real expectation for our country to improve they should've put in changes required to all these weird laws, and constitutional elements. IMF loan with the attitudes of MPs and government like this means, 10 or 15 years, again the same problems emerge. Developed nations don't have this amount of political murders or economic issues because they don't stagnate with the madly nationalist politics done by our politicians.

What BS! Where was any domestic mechanism? So many are behind bars and still continuing. This is just a statement to the people and a promise to the the Human Rights sessions each time, but nothing happens domestically. They should be taken to task for inaction.
