The private bus operations in the country would come to a halt by Friday (17), if the current fuel crisis continue in the country, the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) said.
Addressing the media, LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said all bus owners may have to withdraw from service.
"20% the of private buses (4,000 buses) will take the roads across the country tomorrow (15) and on Thursday (16), with the available fuel in hand and after that the operation will be limited to 3,000. By Friday we will not be able to take the buses on to the roads," he said.
We do not have issues with the government or with any other party, but with the current fuel crisis. We have to live with this for another two or three months. Therefore, the government should tell the truth to the people of this country," Wijerathne said.
Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots in Colombo and suburbs yesterday issued adequate diesel, but it did not happen today.
The upcoming weeks look very critical. If the fuel crisis remains unchanged, this government may face more violent repercussions than on March 9. Therefore, a timely solution is essential at this crucial juncture.
Wijerathne requested the government to take immediate action to cater to the daily needs of the people in the country. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

He always gives grinding news, along with deadlines, but certain private buses are operating with whatever fuel they get; since they have to settle lease rentals and to meet other expenditures.
