Don't blame or arrest the mother, arrest the culprits in parliament for causing this situation. She is selling the child, because of inability to bear the expense of bringing up this child.

Is it because of poverty? with a good intention for the baby to have a good future or a business deal happening with help of mafia? a thorough investigation is a must

All these happening because of ruined economy by Rajapaksa's family.

This is from Gota and SLPP decision making, and now continued mismanagement with Ranil/UNP with SLPP government. Inflation is still continuing no sign of slowing while government prints money. This situation arose because of the lack support for the poor by the government.

This sounds like the babyfarms in the 80's in Sri Lanka. This selling of children came to light last year in the Netherlands by an adopted Sri Lankan woman. That is why fortunately no children from Sri Lanka can be adopted anymore.

Govt should have proper policies for legal adoption. Simply arresting the mother when she can’t afford to maintain a child under the current economic crisis, is NOT the answer. Pathetic behavior of the authorities !

Very pathetic situation in the country, loving mother cannot afford feeding own baby ... ? This is the reality, Politicians

I guess it's better than jumping in the well with the babies, as some mothers do in Sri Lanka.

Nobody knows why or how a mother resorts to such dreadful things. We do not know her circumstances. Nobody has the right to judge. While such acts cannot be justified, listen to her story as well.

I read a lot of sympathy and helpfulness for this young mother in the comments ! It would speak for the quality and humanity of the Daily Mirror if it would set up a donations account for this mother !
